Fragments of the City 

Fragments of the City developed from the familiar urban landscape of everyday life — views from my apartment in Glebe and places encountered repeatedly while moving through the city. The works consider how familiarity shapes our perception of place, as architecture, reflections and recurring views become part of an accumulated experience of the urban environment.

Created through multiple-plate colour etching, the works combine hardground, softground and aquatint. Successive plates build line, tone, texture and colour, allowing the image to develop through layers rather than from a single impression. The process became a way of translating the complexity and visual density of the city into print.
